1. Choose a Clear and Descriptive Title

The title of your blog is one of the most important elements for your blog SEO. It is what appears in search engine results and the browser tab. Your blog title should be clear, descriptive, and relevant to the content of your blog.

2. Write a Blog Description:

Blogger allows you to write a basic and meta description for your blog. This description appears below the title in search results and provides users with a brief overview of your blog.

3. Visible to Search Engines:

By default, Blogger allows your blog to be visible to search engines. However, it's important to double-check that your blog is set to be indexed and visible. (Yes)

This allows search engines like Google to crawl and index your blog for relevant search queries.

4. HTTPS Redirect:

One of the most important settings for your blog is HTTPS. Google considers HTTPS a ranking factor and, more importantly, it secures your site, providing safety for visitors.

  • Go to Settings > Basic, and turn HTTPS Redirect to Yes.

This setting also improves your SEO by preventing potential security warnings that could scare off users.

5. Enable Meta Descriptions for Each Post:

While the blog description is important, you can also add individual meta descriptions for each blog post. This helps search engines understand the content of your posts and provides more targeted search results.

  • Go to Settings > Search Preferences and enable the Search Description option.
  • For each new post, you can add a specific meta description under the Search Description section in the post editor.

6. Enable Custom Robots Header Tags:

Custom robots header tags give you more control over how search engines index your blog’s content. By default, Blogger uses standard robot tags, but enabling custom tags lets you customize indexing rules for different types of pages.

  • Go to SettingsCustom Robots Header Tags by selecting Yes.

Once enabled, you can adjust the settings for specific pages:

a. Home Page Tags (all, noodp):

The Home Page tag should typically allow search engines to index the page and follow the links within it. Set it to all, noodp.

b. Archive and Search Page Tags (noindex):

Search engines generally do not need to index archive or search pages because they often feature duplicate content. To avoid being penalized for duplicate content, you should set these pages to noindex.

c. Post and Page Tags (all, noodp)

For individual posts and pages, you want search engines to index and follow the links. Set Post and Page Tags to all, noodp, which allows search engines to index these pages but prevents using irrelevant directory metadata.

By configuring these basic Blogger SEO settings, you can significantly improve your blog’s visibility and ranking in search engines. Remember, SEO (search engine optimization) is a long-term strategy, and these initial settings are just the beginning. Regularly update your content, engage with your audience, and continue optimizing your blog to ensure sustained growth and success in search rankings.
